Where do I start to market my business?
First, you have to define your goals. Are you an ecommerce site, do you sell something? If you do sell, is it regional? Is it a service or products to ship? Are you promoting a cause or writing blogs?
Either way, you still want traffic and in the case of selling, you want not just hits or visitors but customers.
Define what your goal is and the time frame. If you call someone like GSConsulting2010, you need to let the consultant or web developer know up front what you want and when.
As we move through the lessons, I am going to use DiscountWatchesUSA.com, where you can see how a real live site evolves.

Is this an ad?????? Did it catch your attention? I have found over the past 2 years FREE tools or apps. Free tools to submit your website to over 50 search engines and 100 international, tools to create sitemaps, robots.txt, RSS feeds and more. Free logo makers and banners. Download free icons, images and photography free to use on your site. Really good keyword search tools. Lists of drop shippers for ecommerce. All of these I put in my Toolbox and if you play nicely, I will share.
What is Google Analytics?

This is a FREE tool or application Google provides to webmasters. All you do is put a small snippet of code in your home page. Google will now keep track of the number of visitors that come to your site, how long they stay, where they came from and what pages they landed on. Not to mention, much, much more.

You need to know if you are improving. If you redesign your home page and want to see if traffic increases, well, here are your numbers. You can pay for WebTrends and other applications but why when it is FREE.
As a reminder, when I am done, I will further explain how to get the FREE tools, the best and the worst of them. Too many people try to rip you off.
